Breast Surgeries

Breast surgeries are one of the most performed procedures, with the aim of improving one’s appearance, reducing, augmenting, lifting or reconstructing the breast. In some cases, it is also necessary to eliminate and correct the breast defects from both a functional and aesthetic point of view. These procedures can be divided into three main categories:

1. Breast aesthetics. Surgeries such as breast augmentation, mastopexy with or without implants, replacement of breast implants, correction of asymmetry or symmastia are meant to improve the aesthetics of the breast. Specifically, breast augmentation aims to increase its volume using breast implants. It is particularly requested by those who want fuller and more voluminous breasts.
2. Functional breast volume reduction. Breast reduction aims to reduce the size of the breast, often to relieve physical discomfort associated with overly large breasts, such as back and neck pain, or skin irritation. Mastopexy, instead, focuses on lifting the breast, removing excess skin and raising the nipple.
3. Breast reconstruction: in two stages (positioning of an expander and subsequent replacement with a definitive prosthesis) or in a single stage (immediate positioning of a definitive prosthesis), lipofilling. This type of surgery is generally performed due to breast cancer. It can be done using an expander, prosthesis, or autologous tissue (taken from other parts of the body), or a combination of these, to restore the natural appearance of the breast.
